Merry Christmas

Hopefully all of you are enjoying a nice holiday with family, friends and good times. I hope Santa was good to you. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for reading this blog and also for your helpful comments. I have some big plans for 2009 that I will be discussing here soon so stay tuned.
Since it is the "off season" I am doing a little experiment (it is always off-season for me). I am using this protocol from the Rostov site which has been kindly translated by Smet here.
I am in the middle of the second week and it is turning out to be quite tough. 8 rpm with the 32s is pretty tough but 12 rpm with the 24s is far worse. I just can't go that fast and sustain it. Good stuff so far. I still think the longer sets are better especially for folks starting out. It is crucial to develop the endurance that long sets give you and at the same time going too fast can lend itself to poor form. The fact remains that I need to find a way to get faster than 5-6 RPM where I am stuck now. I would really like to get 60 reps at the Arnold. I'll keep you posted to see how this goes.
Merry Christmas!

Scott, congrats on your recent MS accomplishment and thanks for recording your training methodologies and various ruminations. Just discovered this blog and has motivated me to take up GS, or at least to mold my training more in the GS vein (I'm coming back from a year of inactivity following a 2-year stint of Olympic Lifting). I have a few odd KBs from DD and one lone 32 Kg from AKC before I realized what GS was about. I plan on getting a pair of 16s and make '09 the year I start GS-style training. Not sure if I want to go the competition route, but I do want to get the conditioning and weight loss (goal is to drop from 190 to 170 pounds) without dropping strength (not that I am particularly strong). I used to be mainly a runner and at my leanest I was 155. I'm going to get running back in the workout schedule as well. I miss it.
Oh yeah. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Go kick some more tail in 09.

Ronnie:
Sounds like a good plan. Head over to IGX (www.irongarmx.net) or www.fullkontact.com and set up a training log. It will help keep you on track.
Happy New Year!
Scott
